real heads rejoice!

Plenty has changed since Topshelf started back in 2006. In a lot of ways, the independent music landscape nowadays is more challenging than ever. You don’t get to do something this long without figuring out what works though. For us, it’s about authentically doing what we want, how we want to, with the continued support of our community. In that spirit, we’ve revisited our entire catalog to put a spotlight back on some important titles we’ve released over the years, bundling long unavailable releases into a 10-LP boxset (limited to 300).

We absolutely couldn’t undertake an endeavor like this without including Pretend. A cult-classic and a staple among the staff here, Tapestry’d Life remains one of the most important albums we’ve had a hand in releasing.

20 of the 300 available bundles, selected at random, will include a free 20th anniversary test pressing.

Throughout the rest of the year, we'll reveal a new bundle title every few weeks, with the next drop on July 2, 2026.

You can pre-order the bundle now. The bundle will ship in two parts, with the first half shipping in early December. Only shipping to US addresses. Only available on topshelfrecords.com.

Thank you for sharing and listening to the music we release. All of us here at this little label couldn’t do it without you!

pennines
recordings 2008-09

The six tracks comprising recordings 2008-09 make up the entire pennines discography to date. Coming up in the UK mid-late 2000s indie music scene, pennines were lucky enough to share the stage with contemporaries such as Stapleton, Hot Club de Paris, Colour, Dartz!, TTNG and other like minded musical friends.

Maneka - bathes and listens

Maneka
bathes and listens

Maneka opens bathes and listens with a Pinback reminiscent verse on “shallowing,” alternating with heavy choruses before exploding with alarm-call guitar in the song’s crashing coda. “shallowing’s” huge ending sets up “dimelo,” McKnight’s crunched, faceripping ode to Carmelo Anthony (specifically Hoodie Melo). “dimelo” is urgent and instantly enthralling, completely swarmed by distortion, with only faint squeals passing through its shroud.
